Lootbound Beginner Guide
A source-aware Lootbound beginner guide to inventory planning, route choices, companions, dice risks, and preparing for later encounters.
How should a beginner plan a Lootbound run?
Reduce each decision to four questions: does the item fit, does its position improve the pack, does the route support the current plan, and can the run absorb the next risk? Lootbound links inventory space, equipment interactions, companions, branching routes, and dice-driven uncertainty, so no pickup should be judged alone.
How do you build a readable inventory?
Keep enough open space to rotate or replace equipment after the next reward. A completely filled pack may look efficient, but it can make a valuable pickup impossible to use without dismantling the layout that already works.
- Place the most position-sensitive piece first.
- Keep flexible or low-commitment items near open edges.
- Re-check adjacency after every rotation or replacement.
- Compare the contribution of the whole cluster, not one tooltip.
The inventory grid and rotation guide explains this placement process in more detail.
Which route should you choose?
Choose the branch that addresses the run’s current bottleneck: space, survivability, damage, companion support, or uncertainty. When the pack is unstable, preserve options. When the build already has a clear engine, more risk may be justified if the reward reinforces that engine.
Use the route and risk-reward checklist before committing to a branch.
How should you evaluate dice-driven risk?
Judge a roll by its upside, its worst visible outcome, and whether a safer route can reach the same goal. A good decision can still fail, so record what was known before the roll instead of treating the result as proof that the choice was right or wrong.
What should you review after a run?
A short review turns an unsuccessful attempt into reusable knowledge. Keep the questions consistent so you can compare runs without inventing conclusions from one unusual result.
- Which item or companion defined the plan?
- Where did the pack stop being flexible?
- Which route choice created the most avoidable risk?
- Did the final setup have one clear purpose?
